The Department of Veterans Affairs approved $596 million in infrastructure improvements for Q2 FY 2026, part of a record $4.8 billion annual non-recurring maintenance budget. Funds will modernize VA medical facilities, addressing outdated systems and supporting future electronic health record updates.

The Department of Veterans Affairs has approved $596 million in infrastructure project approvals for the second quarter of fiscal year 2026, according to official announcements. This forms part of a record $4.8 billion non-recurring maintenance allocation for the full fiscal year, the largest such budget in the department’s history.

The funding addresses aging infrastructure across VA medical facilities, with $795 million already obligated for repairs and upgrades to outdated systems. Another $255 million is earmarked for infrastructure modernization to support future electronic health record updates, and $13 million for major building systems including elevators and electrical plants. Through the first half of FY 2026, total obligations reached $1.064 billion.

Medical equipment suppliers, construction firms, and engineering consultants specializing in healthcare facility modernization stand to benefit from contracting opportunities. The investment also signals sustained demand for compliance-ready infrastructure capable of supporting digital health records.

For investors and contractors, the VA’s multiyear maintenance ramp-up offers predictable procurement cycles. The department reported 82 million direct care appointments in FY 2025 and over 125,000 new VA healthcare enrollees in 2026 alone, underscoring rising utilization pressure on physical plant capacity.

The Department of Veterans Affairs is the U.S. federal agency responsible for providing healthcare, benefits, and memorial services to military veterans and their families.
