Verano Energy has awarded a contract to Sungrow to supply a 152 MW / 606 MWh battery energy storage system and provide 25 years of operational services for the Observatorio project in Chile, enhancing regional power grid reliability.

Latin American Independent Power Producer Verano Energy has awarded a contract to global renewable equipment manufacturer Sungrow to supply a 152 MW / 606 MWh utility-scale battery energy storage system for the Observatorio project in Chile. Under the terms of the agreement, Sungrow will deliver its PowerTitan 2.0 storage solution featuring a four-hour discharge duration alongside 135 MW of SG350HX-20 solar inverters. The contract also encompasses a 25-year Long-Term Service Agreement to cover multi-decade operational support, lifecycle maintenance, and performance monitoring for the facility.

Sungrow is an international supplier of solar inverters and energy storage technologies, delivering infrastructure for utility, commercial, and residential projects worldwide. Verano Energy operates as an Independent Power Producer developing, constructing, and operating clean energy generation assets across Latin American markets.

This large-scale deployment directly addresses the operational vulnerabilities facing regional grids experiencing rapid renewable generation expansion. Integrating a 606 MWh four-hour storage asset with solar generation allows the plant to capture surplus generation during peak production hours and dispatch electricity when system demand crests. This capability significantly reduces transmission bottlenecking and curtailment losses that routinely impact high-yield solar territories across Chile.

For global investors, project developers, and utility operators, the agreement reflects an evolving strategic mandate toward hybrid asset design in dynamic power markets. By combining hardware supply with long-term maintenance contracts, energy infrastructure sponsors are prioritizing operational availability and revenue optimization to mitigate price volatility and power system intermittency over extended asset lifespans.
