Wärtsilä has entered into a five-year engine service agreement with Viking Line for the ferry Viking XPRS, which operates between Helsinki and Tallinn. Booked in the second quarter of 2026, the agreement expands the operator’s existing lifecycle maintenance arrangements and targets improved vessel availability, more predictable servicing expenditure and reliable ferry operations.

ESTONIA; FINLAND —Wärtsilä has secured a five-year service agreement covering the engines aboard Viking Line’s passenger ferry Viking XPRS. The order was recorded in the second quarter of 2026. The vessel serves the Helsinki–Tallinn route, connecting Finland and Estonia across the Baltic Sea.

The contract includes maintenance scheduling, the provision of planned spare parts and technical support tailored to the vessel’s operating requirements. A dedicated contract manager will coordinate and oversee maintenance activities. The arrangement is intended to strengthen engine reliability and vessel availability while helping Viking Line plan maintenance expenditure more consistently over the contract period.

Viking XPRS becomes the third vessel in Viking Line’s fleet to receive Wärtsilä’s lifecycle support services. The operator already has comparable agreements covering Viking Grace and Viking Glory. Extending the arrangement to a third ferry broadens the use of a structured maintenance model across its fleet, although the announcement does not disclose the contract’s financial value or any quantified performance targets.

The agreement is relevant to passenger shipping operators serving regular short-sea routes in Northern Europe. Ferry operators depend on vessel availability to maintain published schedules and manage passenger and freight movements. Planned maintenance, access to spare parts and coordinated technical support can help reduce the risk of unexpected engine-related disruption. More predictable maintenance planning can also assist budgeting and lifecycle cost management.

For Viking Line, the expanded coverage provides continuity in engine maintenance support across another vessel operating on a key Baltic Sea connection. For Wärtsilä, the agreement adds to its recurring marine services business, extending its relationship with an existing customer beyond individual equipment supply. Long-term service contracts can provide equipment suppliers with more predictable service revenue while giving shipowners a defined framework for maintenance support.

Wärtsilä is a Finland-based technology and engineering company serving the marine and energy sectors, including through engines, equipment and lifecycle services. Viking Line is a Finnish passenger shipping operator running ferry services in the Baltic Sea region. The agreement links the two companies through a long-term maintenance arrangement focused on the operational performance of Viking XPRS.
