A corporate joint venture between VA TECH WABAG and HEISCO has secured a infrastructure contract to design, construct, and operate the Stage II Doha Seawater Reverse Osmosis desalination plant to bolster water security in Kuwait.

KUWAIT According to official disclosures, a consortium led by VA TECH WABAG, in partnership with Heavy Engineering Industries and Ship Building Co. (HEISCO), has been awarded a major contract for the Doha Seawater Reverse Osmosis (SWRO) Desalination Plant Stage II in Kuwait. The engineering, procurement, and construction valued at over INR 10 billion covers the design, execution, and commissioning of a facility capable of treating 60 million imperial gallons per day, or roughly 272 million liters daily. The project timeline is set at 36 months, bundled with a subsequent five-year operations and maintenance contract, and features an integrated solar photovoltaic system alongside advanced recarbonation systems to lower its overall carbon footprint.

VA TECH WABAG is an international pure-play water technology firm specializing in sustainable water management solutions, while Kuwait-based HEISCO provides engineering and construction services to the oil, gas, and maritime sectors. This development marks a critical step for the Middle East utility sector, which is increasingly turning to energy-efficient reverse osmosis technologies to mitigate intense regional water scarcity. By integrating solar energy into the desalination matrix, the project establishes a modern precedent for decarbonizing infrastructure in high-emission economies.

For industrial enterprises and infrastructure investors, this award highlights the resilient capital expenditure pipeline targeting municipal water networks in the Gulf Cooperation Council region. The structural emphasis on long-term operations contracts alongside construction scopes indicates a continuing trend toward de-risking utility assets. Stakeholders can expect tightening regional environmental policies to favor hybrid infrastructure models that blend industrial utility output with localized renewable energy generation.
