WACKER and its joint-venture partner SICO Performance Material have inaugurated a 2,300-square-meter application development center in Jining, China, focused on organofunctional silanes. The facility is designed to accelerate additive innovation and commercialization for plastics, coatings and adhesives industries across high-growth Asian markets.

CHINA —WACKER, a Germany-based specialty chemicals manufacturer, and its Chinese joint-venture partner SICO Performance Material have opened a new application development center (ADC) in Jining, China, dedicated to organofunctional silanes. The approximately 2,300-square-meter facility houses multiple laboratories to support formulation development for high-performance additives used in plastics, coatings and adhesives.

The center is positioned near SICO’s production and scale-up operations, enabling closer coordination between research, technical service and manufacturing. This integration is intended to shorten development cycles and accelerate commercialization of new silane-based materials. Investment in the ADC amounts to a mid-six-figure euro sum, according to company disclosures.

Organofunctional silanes serve as adhesion promoters, binders and performance enhancers in advanced materials, improving mechanical strength and chemical resistance. Rising demand for hybrid polymers across electromobility, electronics, power engineering and telecommunications has driven sustained growth in this segment.

For WACKER, the expansion reinforces its specialty chemicals strategy in Asia, particularly in China’s advanced manufacturing ecosystem. For regional downstream industries, enhanced local R&D capabilities may support faster product customization and improved supply-chain responsiveness in high-value industrial applications.
